According to reports, Manchester United has made an official approach for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana. The goalkeeping situation at Manchester United has been uncertain since the closing weeks of the 2022-23 season, primarily due to David de Gea's situation. United has requested that De Gea takes a significant pay cut to extend his contract at Old Trafford, which he reportedly was willing to do.

However, there has been no official confirmation from United regarding De Gea's future, leading him to express his thoughts on social media on Wednesday.

Regardless of De Gea's decision, head coach Erik ten Hag has made no guarantees about his status as the first-choice goalkeeper. As a result, United has been linked with various goalkeepers, including David Raya from Brentford, who seems to have missed out on a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

However, according to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla on Twitter, Manchester United is prepared to move forward with a deal for Andre Onana as soon as possible. It is reported that United has presented Inter Milan with an official proposal for the goalkeeper, who recently helped Inter reach the Champions League final, narrowly losing to Manchester City.

In response, Inter Milan has allegedly requested a fee of €60m (£51.79m), plus add-ons, to consider selling one of their most valuable assets. Earlier this week, it was suggested that Inter officials traveled to England to discuss the potential deal, indicating their openness to the transfer. Onana, the Cameroon international, had an impressive season, keeping 19 clean sheets in 41 appearances across all competitions, and Inter also won the Coppa Italia.

With four years remaining on his contract, Inter is not under pressure to sell Onana, but a transfer fee would provide them with resources to strengthen other areas of the team. Currently, club officials are negotiating with Chelsea for the transfer of Romelu Lukaku, and the possibility of a permanent transfer in this summer or 2024.

Chelsea has also shown interest in Onana, but it is unclear whether they would be willing to meet Inter's demands, especially considering the speculation that Kepa Arrizabalaga could remain as the number-one goalkeeper under Mauricio Pochettino.
