Real Madrid has confirmed that Thibaut Courtois underwent a successful knee surgery following an injury he sustained during a training session with the team. Courtois, the Belgian goalkeeper, hasn't been able to play for Los Blancos this season due to an ACL injury he suffered before the season began.

Despite working hard to recover in recent months, he faced another setback when he tore the internal meniscus in his right knee during Tuesday's session. This injury occurred in the opposite knee to the one he injured in August.

"Our player Thibaut Courtois underwent successful surgery today for a tear in the internal meniscus of his right knee under the supervision of the Real Madrid Medical Services. Courtois will begin his recovery process in the coming days," read a statement from the Spanish outfit on Wednesday morning.

Real Madrid confirmed the injury setback on Tuesday after Courtois had undergone a scan.

"After the tests carried out today on our player Thibaut Courtois, he has been diagnosed with a tear of the internal meniscus of his right knee. The injury occurred during today's training session. Pending evolution," read a statement on Real Madrid's official website.

It's anticipated that the goalkeeper will need two to three months to recover from his latest injury, so he's now aiming to return for the next season.

Courtois has been a part of Real Madrid since 2018, playing in 230 matches for the club across various competitions, with 49 appearances during the 2022-23 season alone.

During his time at Bernabeu, the 31-year-old has secured two La Liga titles, the Copa del Rey, two Spanish Super Cups, the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the Club World Cup.
