Barcelona B head coach Rafael Marquez has shown interest in stepping up as the team's new main manager. This comes as Xavi, the current manager, announced his departure at the end of the season following a tough 5-3 loss to Villarreal.

Xavi stated that the club requires a change in direction, feeling the pressure from the team's struggles throughout the 2023-24 season. Marquez, who coaches Barcelona B, is reportedly highly regarded by the club's president, Joan Laporta. It's said that Marquez has been earmarked as a potential first-team manager.

Having previously played for Barcelona from 2003 to 2010, Marquez boasts an impressive record, winning numerous titles during his tenure. His tactical expertise and deep understanding of the club's ethos have positioned him as a strong contender for the managerial role.

Marquez himself has expressed openness to the idea, stating that he wouldn't turn down the opportunity to lead Barcelona if it were presented to him this summer.

"Who wouldn't want to be Barca coach? I will continue working hard, it's only my second season as a coach", Mundo Deportivo quotes Marquez as saying.

"The board will have time to think carefully between now and the end of the season. But, you can't say no to an opportunity like this!"
