Manchester United are reportedly getting closer to securing the signing of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount. The contractual situation surrounding Mount has been a subject of much discussion since the beginning of the year, as his current deal expires in 2024.

Reports have consistently indicated that Mount's representatives and Chelsea's owners, Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, have struggled to reach a compromise. Given Chelsea's need to sell players promptly to comply with Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations, it has become increasingly likely that Mount will eventually leave Stamford Bridge.

The latest update suggests that Mount's preferred destination, should he depart Chelsea this summer, is Manchester United. Despite reported interest from other clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool, Mount is said to be keen on joining Old Trafford and becoming part of Erik ten Hag's squad.

According to The Telegraph, Mount has now agreed to personal terms with Manchester United, contingent upon the possibility of a transfer.

Having secured qualification for the upcoming season's UEFA Champions League, Manchester United will now focus on negotiating a transfer fee with Chelsea, a process that may take some time.

While Chelsea is willing to cash in on one of their most successful academy graduates, they are believed to value the 24-year-old midfielder at around £85 million. In contrast, Manchester United's offer is reportedly in the range of £50 million to £60 million, leading to a potential standoff between the two clubs.

Nonetheless, there is confidence that a compromise will eventually be reached, particularly considering Chelsea's need to generate significant funds before the end of the current season on June 30.

Additionally, Manchester City is reportedly in talks to sign Mateo Kovacic, another Chelsea player who has just over a year remaining on his contract. This comes amid reports that Joao Felix will not remain in West London beyond his loan spell from Atletico Madrid, indicating that Chelsea may be open to parting ways with multiple players over the next few weeks.
