Manchester United have activated a one-year extension in Erik ten Hag's contract, keeping him at the club until 2026. The Dutch manager's initial contract, signed when he joined in 2022, was set to expire in 2025.

Ten Hag, who came from Ajax, has secured two trophies in his two years at Old Trafford. "I am very pleased to have reached an agreement with the club to continue working together," said the 54-year-old. Reflecting on the past two years, he expressed pride in their achievements and progress but acknowledged the hard work ahead.

In Ten Hag's first season, United finished third in the Premier League and ended a six-year trophy drought by winning the Carabao Cup against Newcastle. However, his second season was more challenging, with the team finishing eighth in the league and being eliminated from the Champions League group stages. A crucial 2-1 victory against Manchester City in the FA Cup final in May helped Ten Hag retain his position.

After Sir Jim Ratcliffe's investment in December, the club conducted a performance review following the FA Cup win. Despite considering potential replacements, United decided to retain Ten Hag to continue working under a new, improved structure.

I hope they don't call for his sack after the first 3 weeks of next season
