Manchester United seems to be making some significant moves behind the scenes, with reports suggesting they're eyeing England manager Gareth Southgate and Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Roberto De Zerbi.

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently becoming a minority owner and taking charge of footballing operations, changes are expected at Old Trafford.

Omar Berrada is set to leave Manchester City for United to take on the role of chief executive, while the club is also keen on bringing in Dan Ashworth from Newcastle United as director of football. Erik ten Hag remains as manager for now, but his position is uncertain as United struggles to secure a spot in next season's Champions League.

United's recent Premier League form has been disappointing, with 11 losses out of 27 matches, leaving them six points behind fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur and 11 points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa. Back-to-back defeats to Fulham and Manchester City have increased the pressure on Ten Hag, giving Ratcliffe and his team much to consider.

According to ESPN, Southgate and De Zerbi are both being considered as potential replacements. Southgate is currently focused on preparing for Euro 2024, with his England squad for upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium set to be announced soon.

However, Southgate's contract with the Football Association ends in 2024, and it's unclear if he'll extend his tenure with the national team. It's worth noting that Southgate has a history of working with Ashworth during his time at the Football Association.

Meanwhile, De Zerbi is aiming to secure another top-six finish for Brighton in the Premier League, which could put him in contention for the United job. Brighton is also in the last 16 of the Europa League, adding to De Zerbi's appeal.

However, there are concerns about the financial implications of parting ways with Ten Hag, as United would need to pay out the remainder of his contract and compensate his successor. This adds to the challenges United faces in complying with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability regulations.
