Tyson Fury's failure to make an undisputed fight with Oleksandr Usyk has led Anthony Joshua to claim that Fury is dependent on him to elevate his reputation. The teams of Fury and Usyk have been discussing a potential showdown since the start of the year, but negotiations fell through last week.

Fury and promoter Frank Warren blamed Usyk's camp for ending the talks after Usyk agreed to only take 30% of the split, while Fury insisted on 50-50. As it stands, Usyk is expected to fight WBA mandatory challenger Daniel Dubois, while Fury does not have an obvious next opponent.

However, Joshua's potential fight with Jermaine Franklin on Saturday will determine whether a Joshua versus Fury showdown is possible. If Joshua wins, he is willing to put himself in line to face Fury, as he believes that Fury needs him to enhance his reputation with the public.

As quoted by BBC Sport, Joshua said:

"There's no better time to get Fury in the ring than now because he needs me to redeem himself from this circus. This letdown.

"He needs me so there's no better time than for him to call my name out and I'm someone that will take on any challenge."

Previously, when Tyson Fury did not hold any world title belts, Anthony Joshua's promoters Matchroom Sport offered him a 40% split, but Fury rejected the offer. They were scheduled to fight in 2022, but Deontay Wilder forced a trilogy fight with Fury instead. Negotiations were attempted again in the autumn, but Fury imposed a timeframe for the agreement, and they could not reach a deal within that time.

From recent photos, Joshua has lost some of his muscles in a bid to increase endurance and speed. He has obviously been putting in the work to get back on track

But would that be enough for Fury?

He could survive Fury, if and only if he gets a near flawless win on his upcoming fight with Jermaine Franklin.

Any struggling, buckling, or gassing out during the fight with Franklin would suggest that he is very likely not to survive Tyson Fury.
