Sporting Lisbon is making a firm demand of €100 million (£87 million) to consider the departure of Viktor Gyokeres, a player who has been linked with Premier League clubs. Gyokeres, the Swedish striker, joined Sporting Lisbon during the summer following two outstanding seasons with Coventry City in the Championship.

During those two seasons, Gyokeres netted an impressive 38 league goals and played a crucial role in helping his former club reach the playoff final, despite their eventual loss to Luton Town. The 25-year-old has continued his impressive form in Lisbon, tallying eight goals in nine games across all competitions.

Ruben Amorim, the Sporting boss, made it clear ahead of their Taca de Portugal match against Olivais e Moscavide that the club has no intentions of parting with Gyokeres unless his release clause of €100 million (£87 million) is met.

In his pre-match press conference, Amorim emphasized the substantial figure Premier League clubs would need to provide in order to lure him away from Sporting.

"He has a clause, this year as far as I know, only someone will leave under the clause. If they pay 100 million. 100 million, right? He will have to go. Until then he will be a Sporting player."

Gyokeres has played a pivotal role in Sporting's excellent start to the season, with the Lions currently leading the Primeira Liga after eight matches. They hold a one-point advantage over their local rivals, Benfica.

Sporting faced strong interest from English clubs like Everton in securing the services of the former Brighton & Hove Albion player, who has now become a full-fledged member of the Swedish national team.

The €20 million (£17.5 million) transfer fee that Sporting paid to Coventry for Gyokeres set a new club record, surpassing the previous high they had spent on another striker, Paulinho, from Braga in 2021.

If Gyokeres were to leave for the mentioned fee, it would break the club's existing record for the most significant sale, which is currently held by Bruno Fernandes, who moved to Manchester United for €65 million (£57 million) in 2020.

Gyokeres gained attention for his performance during the international break, notably for his fifth international goal against Belgium. However, the significance of his achievement was overshadowed by the events in Brussels that led to the game's abandonment.

The striker is set to make an appearance for Sporting in their upcoming cup match against lower-league opposition this weekend, marking his return to the field.
