Andy Murray, a three-time Grand Slam champion, was eliminated from the Australian Open in the third round after losing to Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut in a four-set match. Despite making a strong comeback on the Margaret Court Arena, Murray ultimately lost 1-6 7-6[7] 3-6 4-6 to a player ranked 41 places higher than him in the standings. Murray quickly lost control of the match after losing his opening service game and falling 3-0 behind in the first set, with Bautista Agut breaking his serve again in the sixth game.

Dan Evans, Andy Murray's fellow countryman, also failed to secure a spot in the fourth round of the Australian Open, losing to Russian sixth seed Andrey Rublev 6-4 6-2 6-3. Rublev took just two hours and nine minutes to defeat Evans, although he had to wait until the 10th game to get his first break after Evans missed his own chance to break in the seventh game. Rublev soon regained his dominance and won seven games in a row, but Evans squandered a 40-0 lead on Rublev's serve in the third game of the third set, allowing Rublev to go 3-0 up.

Novak Djokovic on the other hand would power into the last 16 courtesy of a 7-6[7] 6-3 6-4 win over Grigor Dimitrov in three hours and six minutes, despite hitting nine aces compared to the Bulgarian's 14
