Barcelona is reportedly making efforts to persuade Xavi to continue as head coach. Despite facing challenges due to the club's financial issues, Xavi, a club legend, led the team to victory in La Liga last season.

However, this season started off poorly, prompting Xavi to announce his intention to step down at the end of the 2023-24 season. This decision sparked mixed reactions, especially after a string of defeats in December and January.

But since then, Barcelona has turned things around dramatically. Following a defeat to Villarreal where they conceded nine goals in two games, they went on an impressive 11-match unbeaten streak across all competitions.

They've recorded eight wins and three draws, conceding just seven goals during this period. Notably, they've also outperformed Real Madrid in the league over the past nine games, albeit by just two points.

This resurgence, coupled with a victory over Napoli in the Champions League last 16, has prompted key figures within the club to try and convince Xavi to stay on as coach.

President Joan Laporta and vice-president Rafa Yuste are keen on continuity in leadership, and finding a suitable replacement for Xavi seems challenging given financial constraints and a scarcity of available candidates.

While names like Hansi Flick and Thomas Tuchel are mentioned, their availability and high costs make them less feasible options. Rafael Marquez, another club legend currently coaching the second-string side, is seen as a potential successor due to his compatibility with the reduced salary cap that the club will soon face.

Barcelona is already aware of the need to significantly reduce spending ahead of the next season. Therefore, retaining Xavi, who has overseen a remarkable turnaround, appears to be a priority for the club's leadership.
