It seems that Barcelona has abandoned their efforts to bring in Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta as the successor to Xavi. Xavi himself is preparing to depart from his position at the end of the season, a decision he announced following a 5-3 loss to Villarreal on January 27th.

Despite this impending departure, Barcelona has seen a notable improvement in performance under Xavi's guidance, with the team enjoying a six-game unbeaten streak across various competitions. However, Xavi remains resolute in his decision to step down, while the club continues its search for his replacement.

Earlier reports had linked Arteta, a former Barcelona player, to the managerial role at the club. Arteta's work at Arsenal since taking over in 2019 reportedly caught the attention of the Barcelona hierarchy.

Nevertheless, according to Sport, Barcelona has now abandoned their pursuit of Arteta, seemingly unable to convince the 41-year-old to leave North London for Catalonia ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Despite Arteta having less than 18 months remaining on his current contract, there's no indication from him that he intends to depart from Arsenal in the near future.

Furthermore, Barcelona's chances of securing Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso appear slim, with Alonso reportedly attracting interest from Bayern Munich and Liverpool, making his availability uncertain for Barcelona.
