Wirtz hit the ground running in his debut, setting up Hugo Ekitike’s goal during Liverpool’s Community Shield defeat to Crystal Palace. But since then, the former Bayer Leverkusen star has gone nine games without a goal or assist, including seven Premier League appearances and two Champions League outings.
His dry spell continued on international duty as well, as he failed to register a goal involvement in Germany’s 4-0 win over Luxembourg in Friday’s World Cup 2026 qualifier. Despite that, his overall performance drew praise from many observers.
Still, the 22-year-old has slipped down Liverpool’s internal power rankings after a quiet start in England. Klopp, however, isn’t worried in the slightest.
“I don’t have to worry about Florian Wirtz because his quality is outstanding,” Klopp told RTL and n-tv, as reported by talkSPORT. “Of course everything’s fine, and everyone knows that. The discussion around him is being blown out of proportion.
“Liverpool have just lost three games in a row, that’s unusual after such a long time, but it happens. These things get talked about, and that’s normal.
“I’ve been through enough of these situations to know that what’s said publicly doesn’t really matter. Everything will be fine.”
