Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is set to take over as the next England manager.

According to multiple sources, the German coach will be the third non-British permanent manager of the England men's team, following in the footsteps of Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.

Since Gareth Southgate stepped down after England's loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final, the team has been without a permanent manager. Lee Carsley will continue as the interim manager for England's final two Nations League matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland in November, with Tuchel expected to officially take over afterward.

His introduction is likely to take place on Wednesday at Wembley Stadium. Tuchel's primary goal will be to guide England through the qualification process for the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

There was also interest in Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola over the summer, but Tuchel has a strong background in English football, having managed Chelsea from January 2021 to September 2022. During his time there, he won the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup before his dismissal.

In June, Tuchel distanced himself from the Manchester United job after a meeting with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe in France. He has previously enjoyed success with Dortmund, winning the German Cup, and with Paris Saint-Germain, where he claimed two Ligue 1 titles and a domestic treble in the 2019-20 season.

Tuchel’s last role was with Bayern Munich, but he left after the team failed to win the Bundesliga title for the first time since 2011-12, despite having a year left on his contract.
