Australia secured their sixth Cricket World Cup title with a convincing six-wicket triumph over India in Ahmedabad, highlighted by Travis Head's brilliant century. Despite a sluggish start in the tournament, the Baggy Greens outplayed the hosts, who had previously won all 10 of their matches leading up to the final.

India, after losing the toss and being put into bat, reached a respectable 76-2 off 9.4 overs, with Rohit Sharma contributing 47 from 31 deliveries. Virat Kohli (54) and KL Rahul (66) provided support, but India found themselves at 203-6 after 41.3 overs, needing to bat out the remaining overs. Though they achieved that goal, they added just 37 more runs, with Mitchell Starc standing out among the Australian bowlers, taking 3-55.

In response, India sought a quick start, and despite early setbacks with David Warner (7), Mitchell Marsh (15), and Steven Smith (4) departing, Australia found resilience. While Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami made quick breakthroughs, they couldn't contain Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne.

Labuschagne's 58 from 110 balls provided the platform for Head to attack, and his remarkable 137 – the fifth century in his one-day international career – featured 15 fours and four maximums in a historic third-wicket partnership of 192.

Despite Head's dismissal with two runs remaining, Glenn Maxwell came in and sealed the victory for Australia with a boundary off his first ball, leaving the 120,000-strong crowd in heartbreak.
