Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has voiced strong support for defender Nuno Mendes after he was targeted with racist abuse online following the team's 3-1 victory over Brest in Ligue 1 on Saturday.

The 22-year-old Portugal left-back shared the offensive comments he received on his Instagram story, prompting the club to back him fully. Mendes had given away a penalty in the first half of the match, which Brest’s Romain del Castillo converted to give them the lead.

PSG released a statement condemning the racism, saying, "Paris Saint-Germain does not tolerate racism, antisemitism, or any form of discrimination. The racial insults aimed at Nuno Mendes are completely unacceptable."

The club emphasized its commitment to inclusion and respect, adding, "We stand firmly with Nuno and all those affected. We are collaborating with the relevant authorities and organizations to ensure those responsible are held accountable. Racism has no place in football, and we will continue to uphold the values of tolerance and respect that define our club."

PSG went on to secure the win with goals from Ousmane Dembélé and Fabian Ruiz, maintaining their perfect start to the league season.

Mendes, who has made 80 appearances for PSG, initially joined the club on loan from Sporting Lisbon in August 2021 and signed permanently the following May.
