Manchester United have reportedly passed up the opportunity to acquire forward Karim Benzema from Al-Ittihad. After an impressive 14-year stint at Real Madrid, Benzema departed the Spanish giants last summer to join Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ittihad on a free transfer.

Since his arrival, the 36-year-old has made an impact, netting nine goals and providing five assists in 15 appearances in the Saudi Pro League. Despite his contributions, Al-Ittihad finds themselves in seventh place, trailing league leaders Al-Hilal by 28 points.

Although rumors have circulated about Benzema seeking an exit from Al-Ittihad, the player himself has dismissed such claims as "false." Nevertheless, speculation links him with clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea.

Recent reports suggested that Manchester United's new CEO, Omar Berrada, might aid in facilitating Benzema's move due to his close ties with Al-Ittihad's owners. However, The Sun reports that Manchester United has declined the opportunity to sign the former Real Madrid striker.

The decision is attributed to Benzema's hefty wages, estimated at around £86 million annually. With Manchester United keen on adhering to Financial Fair Play regulations, they are cautious about adding Benzema's salary to their wage bill.

Nonetheless, manager Erik ten Hag could still seek to reinforce his attacking options before the transfer window shuts on February 1st.
