Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has disclosed that John Stones will be out of action for an extended period. This unfortunate news comes after Stones was forced to exit during Tuesday's Champions League triumph against Young Boys. The European champions put on a dominant performance, securing their place in the knockout rounds with two games to spare.

Erling Haaland, who had been doubtful due to injury before the match, opened the scoring with a penalty kick, and Phil Foden extended the lead just before the end of the first half. Haaland added another goal, his second, and Manchester City's third, within six minutes of the second half, leading to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Young Boys, who played with 10 men for most of the second period following Sandro Lauper's red card.

Despite the success of the evening and their advancement to the last 16, Stones' injury cast a shadow over Manchester City's victory. The 29-year-old had to be replaced by Nathan Ake at halftime after suffering an injury in the first half of Tuesday's match.

In his post-match comments, Guardiola informed TNT Sports that the English international is expected to be sidelined for a considerable period.

"Unfortunately, John, he's out again. I feel so sorry for him because he's an incredible professional and committed and he's a big loss for us. John is so important with what he does but yeah, recover, the season is long, and he will be back soon."

When asked whether Stones will be out of action for a while, Guardiola replied: "Yeah, think so".

The Man City boss later added in his post-match press conference: "It's a muscular injury so will be a while out. It's a pity, it's bad news for us."

Well it’s just the beginning of the season so there is still time for him to come back and do his job

Stones is a great player, it's a shame his level of football hasn't been noticed at City lately. He needs to get back into shape quickly, because the guy is a monster. But he'll get better quickly.
