There's talk that Liverpool might make a move for Leroy Sane from Bayern Munich in the upcoming January transfer window. The German international's contract with Bayern is set to expire in the summer of 2025, leading to speculation about his future.

While Manchester City is interested in bringing the 27-year-old back to the Etihad Stadium, Manchester United is also keeping a close watch on his situation. According to journalist Ekrem Konur, Liverpool is eager to secure Sane's signature when the winter transfer market opens.

Bayern is eager to extend Sane's contract, but it's uncertain if they can reach an agreement on personal terms. Moving back to English football could potentially offer Sane a more lucrative deal. In the 2023-24 season, Sane has been performing well for Bayern, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists in 19 appearances across all competitions.

In the Bundesliga, he has managed eight goals and six assists in 12 outings, while in the Champions League, he contributed with one goal and one assist in four appearances, with Bayern already securing a spot in the next round.

Sane, who joined Bayern from Man City in the summer of 2020, has made 152 appearances for the club, scoring 47 goals and providing 44 assists.

During the recent international break, when asked about his future, Sane told reporters:

"I haven't given it any thought. The club wants to have discussions but at the moment I want to concentrate on the season. Bayern will be my first point of contract, everything else will take care of itself."

Liverpool might find themselves needing to fill the void left by Mohamed Salah next year. There's significant speculation surrounding the Egyptian international's future, with strong indications pointing towards a lucrative transfer to Saudi Arabia.

Despite the Saudi Pro League's unsuccessful attempt to secure Salah's signature last summer, it seems he continues to be the top priority for senior officials in the league.

Leroy Sane for Mohammed Salah doesn't seem like smart business to me.
