According to reports, Liverpool has initiated discussions with their vice-captain, Trent Alexander-Arnold, regarding the possibility of a fresh contract. Alexander-Arnold, a homegrown talent from Merseyside, has made a significant ascent through Liverpool's ranks since his induction into the club's youth academy in 2004. Today, he is recognized as one of the finest players in his position across Europe.

While Alexander-Arnold's defensive abilities have occasionally come under scrutiny, his extraordinary attacking prowess cannot be denied. He has amassed an impressive record of 16 goals and 73 assists in 277 matches for Liverpool. Since his debut in the 2016-17 season, Alexander-Arnold has played a pivotal role in Liverpool's impressive trophy collection under Jurgen Klopp, including the Champions League and Premier League titles, with a total of seven trophies to his name.

Following the departures of Jordan Henderson and James Milner during the summer, Alexander-Arnold was elevated to the role of vice-captain, standing behind Virgil van Dijk. He had previously captained the team during a 2020 Champions League match against FC Midtjylland. Although Alexander-Arnold extended his Liverpool contract in 2021, which is set to expire in less than two years, there have been no indications of him leaving Anfield.

To secure his long-term future at the club, there are reports that Liverpool has commenced negotiations to extend Alexander-Arnold's contract, with the duration unspecified. Additionally, due to his growing seniority within Klopp's team, he could potentially receive an increase in his salary, and it is anticipated that the negotiations will proceed smoothly.

In addition to his achievements with the team, Alexander-Arnold has received several individual accolades, such as being named Liverpool's Young Player of the Season in 2017 and 2018, as well as the PFA and Premier League's Young Player of the Season during Liverpool's triumphant 2019-20 campaign. He was also featured in the FIFA FIFPRO World XI in the same year and has earned a spot in the PFA Team of the Year on three occasions, most recently in the 2021-22 season.

While Alexander-Arnold faced some challenges with his form last season, he excelled in a hybrid midfield role, contributing with one goal and seven assists in Liverpool's final 10 Premier League matches. However, he sustained a hamstring injury during a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa before the international break. Consequently, he was unavailable for Liverpool's 3-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on the following Saturday, although it is anticipated that he will resume ballwork in training this week.

Nonetheless, it remains uncertain whether Alexander-Arnold will be fit for Liverpool's Europa League opener against LASK Linz on Thursday, which is three days before they host West Ham United in the Premier League.

Over the course of the last season, Liverpool has extended contracts with three promising young talents - Harvey Elliott, Stefan Bajcetic, and Curtis Jones, while also prolonging Adrian's contract for an additional year.
