Brighton had their best-ever finish in the Premier League, securing a sixth-place position and qualifying for European football for the first time in the club's history. According to the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool has taken note of Colwill's performances and has made inquiries to Chelsea about his availability.
Colwill currently has less than two years remaining on his contract with Chelsea, and the club is reportedly eager to secure his long-term future with a new deal, given his impressive performances in the 2022-23 season. However, negotiations may face obstacles as Colwill is seeking guarantees of playing time before committing to a new contract.
Despite Chelsea's sale of Kalidou Koulibaly, Colwill would still face strong competition for a starting position, particularly from left-footed center-back Benoit Badiashile, who joined the club from Monaco for £35m in January. Chelsea's hierarchy has instructed new head coach Mauricio Pochettino to develop Badiashile, potentially limiting Colwill's playing time if he remains at Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is known to be an admirer of Colwill and is looking to strengthen the team's defense this summer to support the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate. Liverpool conceded 47 Premier League goals last season, marking their worst defensive record since the 2015-16 season when they finished eighth.
In addition to Liverpool, Brighton is also keen on bringing Colwill back to the Amex Stadium. However, Brighton is considering alternative signings, including Ajax's Calvin Bassey. Chelsea has reportedly offered Colwill a new long-term contract, adding further complexity to the situation.
