In the finals of the Canadian Men's singles open on Sunday, Jannik Sinner defeated Australia's Alex de Minaur with a score of 6-4, 6-1 through commanding straight-set victories in just and hour and 30 minutes to secure the title.

Both Sinner and De Minaur were vying for their inaugural Masters titles. De Minaur entered his first-ever ATP 1000 showpiece match after surprising opponents like Cameron Norrie, Taylor Fritz, and Daniil Medvedev. Facing Sinner, who had previously been a runner-up at the 2021 and 2023 Miami Opens, De Minaur struggled to match the level of play throughout the 90-minute match.

While Sinner faced challenges from De Minaur in the first set, with both players securing two breaks each, an error-filled service game from De Minaur in the 10th allowed Sinner to claim the set.

The second set commenced with both players holding their serves, but Sinner soon displayed an unrelenting performance. Despite landing only a third of his first serves, he embarked on an impressive five-game winning streak, ultimately earning his first-ever Masters championship title.

"It means a lot. It is a great result. One I can share with all the people who are close to me every day," the Italian said on the court. "It is a nice moment to share with them and we are doing the right things. This result makes us feel good, stronger and hungry to work even harder in the future

"I felt the pressure, but I think I handled it very well. Trying to play point after point. Treating everyone with respect on the court, so I am happy with how I handled the situation."
