After Manchester United's 3-1 home defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League on Saturday, reports emerged of a contentious incident involving four of the team's players in the dressing room. The Red Devils suffered their third league loss of the new season, a disappointing outcome that saw former striker Danny Welbeck, Pascal Gross, and Joao Pedro contribute to their defeat. The full-time whistle marked the end of the match, with Erik ten Hag's side receiving boos from the disgruntled fans.

Currently, Manchester United finds itself in a challenging 13th place on the Premier League table, trailing league leaders and arch-rivals Manchester City by a considerable nine-point margin after just five matches played. Former defender Gary Neville has cast doubt on the quality of Ten Hag's squad and has suggested the presence of "issues" within the dressing room, contributing to "discomfort and uncertainty."

According to reports from The Sun, the altercation involved Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United's captain, and three other players in the aftermath of the Brighton defeat. Fernandes, who assumed the role of club captain earlier this summer, reportedly engaged in a heated exchange with fellow midfielder Scott McTominay. Additionally, tensions allegedly flared up between centre-backs Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof. Ten Hag, who attempted to restore order in the dressing room, is already grappling with a series of off-field challenges that have predictably disrupted the first-team squad at the start of this season.

The team's difficulties have been further compounded by the departure of Mason Greenwood, who was loaned to Getafe earlier this summer after facing criminal charges that were ultimately dropped. Consequently, Manchester United is now coping without the services of wingers Antony and Jadon Sancho. Antony, amid allegations of assault, was announced earlier this month to be unavailable for club representation "until further notice."

Sancho, on the other hand, is navigating an uncertain future with the club after being excluded from first-team training due to a social media dispute with Ten Hag. The 23-year-old, who was previously dropped for a match against Arsenal three weeks ago, is reportedly unwilling to apologize to Ten Hag, claiming that he has been unfairly singled out at the club and that the Dutchman's criticisms of his training performance were "entirely untrue."

As Manchester United prepares for their Champions League group-stage opener against Bayern Munich on Wednesday, it remains uncertain whether Fernandes, McTominay, Martinez, and Lindelof will be included in the matchday squad following the reported dressing room altercation.
