Additionally, tensions allegedly flared up between centre-backs Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof. Ten Hag, who attempted to restore order in the dressing room, is already grappling with a series of off-field challenges that have predictably disrupted the first-team squad at the start of this season.
The team's difficulties have been further compounded by the departure of Mason Greenwood, who was loaned to Getafe earlier this summer after facing criminal charges that were ultimately dropped.
