Manchester City's star striker, Erling Haaland, made history in Tuesday's 3-2 comeback victory against RB Leipzig at the Etihad Stadium, breaking two fresh goalscoring records in the Champions League.

In a crucial match where Pep Guardiola's side needed at least a draw to secure top spot in Group G, Haaland was part of a strong starting lineup. The first half didn't go City's way, trailing by two goals due to a brace from Lois Openda within the first 33 minutes.

However, after the interval, City dominated proceedings, and Haaland showcased his goal-scoring prowess with a side-footed finish in the 54th minute.

Phil Foden played a pivotal role, restoring parity with a composed finish in the 70th minute. The comeback was completed when Julian Alvarez, coming off the substitutes' bench, netted an 87th-minute winner from close range. This victory ensured Guardiola's men secured first place in Group G with a game to spare.

Haaland, last season's Golden Boot winner in the Champions League, has already scored five goals in as many group-stage games this season. His latest goal set two new records in the competition. Haaland has now reached a total of 40 Champions League goals after just 35 games, making him the fastest-ever player to achieve this milestone. He surpassed the previous record held by Ruud van Nistelrooy, who took 45 appearances to reach 40 goals with PSV Eindhoven and Manchester United.

At the age of 23 and 130 days, Haaland has also become the youngest player to score 40 Champions League goals, breaking the previous record held by Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe (23 years and 317 days).

These achievements follow Haaland's recent feat of becoming the quickest player in Premier League history to score 50 goals, achieved in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool just three days prior. In the current season, City's No.9 has scored 19 goals in 20 games across all competitions, bringing his overall tally for the Citizens to 71 goals in 73 appearances since joining the club in the summer of 2022.
