Before this year's tournament, Medvedev had never advanced beyond the second round in his three previous appearances on the Italian clay. However, the world number three proved his worth with an impressive performance, sealing the victory in one hour and 47 minutes on Saturday. Medvedev made an early break against Tsitsipas, but the world number five managed to level the match in the eighth game. Nevertheless, Tsitsipas faltered in the error-laden 11th game, surrendering his serve for the second time after three unforced errors and a double fault.
Medvedev maintained his composure, holding his serve comfortably to claim the first set. The second set unfolded in a strikingly similar manner, as the world number three once again secured early and late breaks, with Tsitsipas responding in between. Due to inclement weather, the contest between the two players extended over five hours, but Medvedev managed to find humor in the situation as he secured his place in the highly anticipated final.
