In a commanding fashion, Carlos Alcaraz, the defending US Open champion, dismantled Alexander Zverev to secure his spot in the semi-finals at Flushing Meadows on Wednesday. The top-seeded player capitalized on all four break opportunities he had while successfully defending against all five break points he faced, sealing a 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 victory in precisely two and a half hours.

Despite challenging conditions and battling through an apparent hamstring injury, Zverev, who had missed the previous year's US Open due to a severe ankle injury, gave his all. However, he struggled, winning only 28% of points on his second serve. Alcaraz's triumph marked his 33rd consecutive Grand Slam victory once he secured the first set. In the open era, only Bjorn Borg (84.4%) boasted a better Grand Slam win rate than the Wimbledon champion (83.7%) before reaching the age of 21.

Next in Alcaraz's path to the championship showdown is Daniil Medvedev, the 2020 US Open winner, who emerged victorious from a grueling contest against his compatriot and close friend, Andrey Rublev, earlier in the day.
