Bayer Leverkusen director Simon Rolfes is confident that Xabi Alonso, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool, will stay with the club for the 2024-25 season. Since Jurgen Klopp announced his departure from Liverpool, fans have been hoping for Alonso to take over the managerial role.

Alonso, a former Liverpool midfielder and a key member of their 2004-05 Champions League-winning squad, has been performing exceptionally well as the head of Leverkusen since October 2022.

He led the team to the semi-finals of the Europa League in his first season and has orchestrated an impressive Bundesliga campaign, with Leverkusen currently leading the table with 55 points from 21 games.

Despite rumors linking him to the Liverpool job, Alonso has expressed his happiness in Germany but hasn't completely ruled out a return to Anfield in a managerial capacity.

While there are reports of Liverpool contacting him, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, two of his former clubs, might also show interest if their current managers, Thomas Tuchel and Carlo Ancelotti, leave their positions.

However, Alonso is under contract with Leverkusen until the end of the 2025-26 season. Rolfes, speaking to SPORT1, expressed confidence that Alonso will continue to be on the touchline for Bayer Leverkusen this summer when asked about retaining Alonso's services.

"Yes I'm sure. One is contract constellations. The other thing is how comfortable he feels, the family, himself and that he knows what he has in the club.

"He also has a very good team, we will have a very good perspective next year and there is no change in the team. We will definitely have a top team available next year. These are all points that, in addition to contracts, coaches like Xabi but also players who arouse interest from other clubs often keep us with us."

In every rumor, there is an iota of truth. It all depends on Xabi Alonso. If he wants the move, Leverkusen will have to let him go.
