Bayer Leverkusen has taken a significant step towards clinching their first-ever Bundesliga title with an impressive 3-0 victory over Bayern Munich at the BayArena today.

Josip Stanisic, playing on loan from Bayern, opened the scoring for Leverkusen, followed by goals from Alex Grimaldo and Jeremie Frimpong, sealing their 17th win of the season. This victory has propelled them five points clear of Bayern Munich in the league standings.

Leverkusen remains unbeaten across all competitions this season, extending their historic run to 31 matches, including 21 league games where they've only dropped eight points.

Despite Bayern being one of the few teams to take points off Leverkusen this season, they were outplayed this afternoon, dealing a significant blow to their hopes of securing a 12th successive title. Star striker Harry Kane was effectively neutralized, with Bayern only managing one shot on target, their lowest in a Bundesliga game in eight years.

Leverkusen's dominance was evident as they exploited defensive lapses to score their goals. Grimaldo's strike early in the second half showcased their attacking prowess, while Frimpong's late goal, scored with Manuel Neuer off his line, further highlighted Leverkusen's dominance.

With this win, Leverkusen inches closer to ending their Bundesliga title drought, having finished as runners-up five times in the past. Under Xabi Alonso's management, Leverkusen has also set a new record for German clubs by remaining unbeaten in their last 31 games, just one short of Bayern's all-time German record.

Next, Leverkusen will aim to equal Bayern's record when they face Heidenheim next Saturday, while Bayern will look to bounce back in the Champions League against Lazio on Wednesday.
