Barcelona have officially confirmed the signing of highly rated Swedish youngster Roony Bardghji from FC Copenhagen. After missing out on Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, the Spanish champions turned their attention to more affordable options and have snapped up Bardghji for a reported fee of €2 million (around £1.73 million), with his contract at Copenhagen nearing its end.
The 19-year-old winger, who has already represented Sweden at Under-21 level, has signed a contract that runs until the summer of 2029. The deal was announced on Monday morning, with Barcelona quietly pulling off what could be a bargain addition to their long-term plans.
Bardghji arrives in Spain after a difficult season in Denmark, where a serious knee injury limited him to just 243 minutes of action across all competitions in 2024-25. Despite the setback, he leaves Copenhagen with a respectable record of 15 goals and one assist from 84 senior appearances.
His breakout year came in the 2023-24 campaign, where he netted eight times in 23 games across the Danish Superliga and Champions League. One of those goals came in a memorable 4-3 win over Manchester United, as Copenhagen advanced to the Champions League last 16 before eventually being knocked out by Manchester City.
As for his role at Barcelona, Bardghji will likely start off as a squad option under new head coach Hansi Flick. Given his limited game time over the past year, the winger may initially feature for the B team or come off the bench in first team matches.
However, with Ansu Fati now on loan at Monaco, Bardghji has a chance to prove himself as a cost-effective replacement in the senior squad once he regains full fitness and adapts to Flick’s system.
