Barcelona and Manchester City have apparently reached an agreement regarding Joao Cancelo's permanent transfer. The 29-year-old defender initially joined Camp Nou on loan from Manchester City during the latter part of the summer transfer window. Since then, he has played for Barcelona in five matches this season, scoring twice and providing an assist.

As things stand, Cancelo is scheduled to return to the Etihad Stadium next year. He still has a contract with the English treble-winning club until the summer of 2027. However, it seems unlikely that he will feature for Manchester City again, mainly due to his strained relationship with the head coach, Pep Guardiola.

When questioned about a potential permanent move to Camp Nou next summer, Cancelo recently mentioned that he was solely focused on his performances for Barcelona. Nonetheless, Barcelona's new director of football, Deco, has expressed the club's openness to signing the Portuguese international on a long-term basis in June 2024.

According to reports from El Chiringuito, an agreement has been reached between the two clubs for Joao Cancelo to join Barcelona next summer for a fee of €35 million (£30.3 million).

In the previous season, Cancelo spent the latter half on loan at Bayern Munich, where he made 21 appearances, scored once, and provided six assists. However, the Bundesliga champions declined the opportunity to secure him permanently, leading to Cancelo's return to Manchester for pre-season training.

Securing Cancelo's transfer to Barcelona was a bit uncertain initially due to the club's financial difficulties. However, they successfully acquired him on loan just before the transfer window closed.

Joao Cancelo has been a key figure in Manchester City's recent success, making 154 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals, and providing 22 assists.

Since his arrival at Camp Nou, Cancelo has become Barcelona's preferred right-back and has even scored in recent victories against Real Betis and Celta Vigo.

Once again, he is expected to be part of the starting lineup for Barcelona in their upcoming La Liga match against Sevilla. Barcelona will be aiming to get back to winning ways following a 2-2 draw with Mallorca in their last match.
