Marcos Llorente rescued Atletico Madrid with a last-gasp goal in the 93rd minute, securing a 1-1 draw against Real Madrid in Sunday's intense Madrid derby at the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid had taken the lead with Brahim Diaz's goal in the 20th minute, seemingly on course for all three points under Carlo Ancelotti's management. However, Llorente's late equalizer salvaged a point for the Red and Whites.

Despite the draw, Real Madrid extended their lead over second-placed Girona at the summit of the La Liga table to two points. Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, maintained their fourth position, holding a three-point lead over fifth-placed Athletic Bilbao, having played the same number of matches (23).

Antonio Rudiger was absent for Real Madrid due to a thigh injury, leading to Dani Carvajal partnering with Nacho in defense. Eder Militao and David Alaba were unavailable due to long-term injuries, while Aurelien Tchouameni was suspended.

Vinicius Junior's injury during the warm-up forced him to sit out, resulting in Brahim Diaz's inclusion in the starting lineup. Diaz seized the opportunity by scoring the crucial goal for Real Madrid on the night.

This result comes as a glimmer of hope for table topping Girona, who face Real Madrid next. Can Girona beat Madrid to re-establish their lead at the top?
