Wales has achieved a historic milestone by securing the first spot in the quarter-finals of the Rugby World Cup, thanks to a resounding 40-6 victory over Australia in Lyon.

The pivotal clash in Pool C turned out to be a completely one-sided affair, with Wales delivering their most significant triumph over the Wallabies in one of their most critical encounters to date.

Eddie Jones's team entered the match fully aware that a win was imperative to keep their World Cup aspirations alive, having suffered defeat at the hands of Fiji in their previous outing. However, they delivered a performance marred by errors and were ruthlessly overwhelmed, increasing the pressure on Jones and likely setting themselves on a course for elimination in the pool stage for the first time.

In stark contrast, Wales came out of the gate with tremendous energy and seized the lead just three minutes into the game when Gareth Davies crossed the try line.

Throughout the remainder of the first half, both teams traded penalties, leaving Wales with a 16-6 lead at halftime. Unfortunately for Australia, Ben Donaldson's 14th-minute penalty would be their final points of the contest.

On the other hand, Gareth Anscombe's precise kicking kept Wales steadily adding to their lead, with six penalties, a drop goal, and a conversion, the latter occurring after Nick Tompkins scored a try in the 48th minute.

To cap off a memorable night for Warren Gatland's squad, Captain Jac Morgan scored Wales' third try of the match from a powerful driving maul late in the game, establishing a record-breaking winning margin for Wales in this fixture.
