Raul Gonzalez at schalke O4
After spending 16 years at Real Madrid, Raul Gonzalez joined German side Schalke 04 in 2010. He made his debut for the club on 1 August 2010 in a pre-season match against Bayern Munich and scored a brace in a 3-1 victory.

He scored his first Bundesliga goal against Borussia Mönchengladbach in a 2-2 draw on 25 September 2010.

In 2010-11, Raul helped the club win their first DFB-Pokal in nine years, after beating Duisburg 5-0 in the final on 21 May 2011 (That was Raul's first ever domestic cup, as he didn't win any at Real Madrid). Two months later- on 23 July 2011, Schalke 04 defeated Borussia Dortmund on penalties- after the game ended in a goalless draw, to win their only DFL-Supercup.

In 2010-11, Raul also helped Schalke 04 reach their first ever UCL semi-finals, scoring five goals in the campaign. Altogether, Raul scored 40 goals in 98 appearances for the club.

Despite spending just two seasons at Schalke 04, he had such an impact that, on his departure, the club opted to retire the number 7 shirt for an indefinite period. In 2013, the number 7 shirt was given to Max Meyer.
