Ruben Neves has affirmed his intention to stay with Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League, despite rumored interest from clubs like Newcastle United and Arsenal. The 26-year-old midfielder made a surprising move to Al-Hilal in the summer, ending his six-year tenure with Wolverhampton Wanderers for a reported £47 million, committing to a three-year contract.

Neves has already made 19 appearances for Al-Hilal, who currently lead the Saudi Pro League table by seven points. Despite his successful stint in the Middle East, there have been speculations about his swift return to the Premier League.

Newcastle, in particular, has been strongly linked to Neves, with manager Eddie Howe seeking to fill the gap left by midfielder Sandro Tonali's 10-month suspension for breaching betting rules.

Initial reports indicated that Neves was Newcastle's primary midfield target for the upcoming January transfer window, with the Portuguese midfielder reportedly envisioning a move to St James' Park. The focus on Newcastle is fueled by their shared majority shareholder, Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), with Al-Hilal.

In the previous month, Newcastle gained approval to sign players from the Saudi Pro League in January, following a Premier League vote against a temporary ban on loan moves between associated clubs. This decision appeared to boost Newcastle's pursuit of Neves.

While other clubs, including Arsenal and Manchester City, have also shown interest in Neves, the midfielder has now expressed his desire to stay with Al-Hilal. In an interview with BBC Sport about his future, Neves made it clear that he wants to continue his journey with the Saudi Pro League team.

I'm not surprised, I will do the same thing if I was in his position 😁

After spending 6 years with Wolves in the premier league, there's little or no motivation to go back there
