Reports have confirmed that Celta Vigo's midfielder, Gabri Veiga, has opted to reject a move to a European club in favor of joining Al-Ahli. The 21-year-old had a breakthrough season in 2022-23, contributing 11 goals and four assists in 36 La Liga appearances.

This success led Veiga to earn nine caps for Spain Under-21s. His contract's release clause sparked significant interest during the summer transfer window. Initially, a move to a Premier League club seemed likely, with Manchester City, Liverpool, and Newcastle United strongly linked.

However, earlier this month, it came to light that Napoli engaged in positive discussions with Veiga, who displayed enthusiasm about joining the reigning Serie A champions. While a move to Napoli would have been a notable accomplishment for the Italian giants, recent developments indicate that he will instead be competing in the Saudi Pro League.

Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Veiga has committed to signing with Al-Ahli and is expected to finalize his transfer to the Middle East in due course. Romano describes Veiga as a "secret top target" for the Saudi powerhouse. Al-Ahli, a former top-flight champion that secured promotion from the second tier in 2022-23, is owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF).

Despite their standing from the previous season, Al-Ahli stands as a favorite for this term's league title due to a series of signings orchestrated by club officials and Matthias Jaissle. The latter played a pivotal role in the negotiations with Veiga. Notable signings include goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, defenders Roger Ibanez and Merih Demiral, midfielder Franck Kessie, and forwards Allan Saint-Maximin, Riyad Mahrez, and Roberto Firmino, all of whom have joined The Royal's ranks.
