Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino won't make a decision about his future until after this summer's European Championship, according to his father, Angel Merino.

On Friday, Merino scored a last-minute winner for Spain, sending them into the Euro 2024 semi-finals at Germany's expense.

There's a lot of speculation about Merino's future, with Barcelona reportedly eager to sign him during this summer's transfer window. Merino's contract with Real Sociedad ends next summer, and new Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick is said to see him as the perfect addition to strengthen the midfield for the 2024-25 season.

However, any decision about Merino's next move will wait until after Euro 2024. Spain is currently preparing to face France in the first semi-final next week.

"Mikel has already said actively and passively that until Spain finishes its participation at Euro 2024, he is not going to talk about anything else," Angel Merino, who played professionally between 1986 and 2003, told El Chiringuito.

"He is only going to talk about the European Championship, and then he will talk to his agent and his club and whoever he has to talk to solve what he has to solve."

Merino had an impressive 2023-24 season with Real Sociedad, scoring eight goals and providing five assists in 45 games across all competitions.

Since joining from Newcastle United in July 2018, he has played 242 matches for the Basque club, netting 27 goals and contributing 30 assists.

Both Manchester United and Manchester City are reportedly interested in Merino, viewing him as an affordable midfield option for the summer transfer window.
