Kylian Mbappe limps off in PSG's win over Marseille (1 Viewer)

Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe's availability for the upcoming Champions League match against Newcastle United next month has come into question.

During the summer, there were strong indications that the French international might part ways with the Ligue 1 champions, as he had declined to extend his contract. However, despite the possibility of the 2018 World Cup winner leaving on a free transfer, he has recently been reintegrated into the first-team squad.

Mbappe has already scored seven goals in just 341 minutes of football in Ligue 1 this season, and he also found the net in the recent European clash with Borussia Dortmund.

Nevertheless, the 24-year-old's participation in PSG's upcoming European fixtures is now uncertain due to an injury sustained in a match against Marseille on Sunday night. PSG held a 1-0 lead when, just after the half-hour mark, Mbappe suffered an ankle injury in a challenge with Marseille's Leonardo Balerdi. Subsequently, Mbappe was substituted, unable to continue, and he was seen receiving further treatment on the sideline.

Despite Mbappe's absence, the French giants managed to secure a 4-0 victory in Le Classique, with his replacement Goncalo Ramos scoring twice as Luis Enrique's team recorded an impressive win at Parc des Princes.

However, there is cause for concern regarding Mbappe, as PSG is well aware of the need to secure every available point to advance in what is considered the toughest group in this season's Champions League. While PSG currently leads the group with a 2-0 victory over Dortmund, three of their remaining five matches will be played away from home, beginning with the visit to St James' Park on October 4.
