Since Ange Postecoglou took over as manager in North London, the Danish international has struggled to secure regular playing time. The new manager has favored a holding midfield duo of Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr, both of whom have been in the starting lineup for Spurs' last five league games. Hojbjerg, in contrast, has seen just 80 minutes of league action in five brief appearances since Postecoglou's arrival, despite previously being a mainstay under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.
Hojbjerg did manage to play the full 90 minutes in Spurs' EFL Cup defeat to Fulham last month, which remains the club's only loss so far this season.
During his three full seasons at Tottenham, Hojbjerg only missed five league games. However, it appears that he, along with fellow stalwarts Eric Dier and Hugo Lloris, might be approaching the end of their time at the club.
There was significant transfer speculation surrounding Hojbjerg towards the end of the transfer window, with Fulham and Atletico Madrid both expressing interest. Fulham had considered him as a replacement for Joao Palhinha, who was expected to move to Bayern Munich. Still, after Palhinha's transfer didn't materialize, Fulham dropped their interest in Hojbjerg. Atletico's interest waned as well, as they were unwilling to meet Spurs' €30 million (£26 million) valuation and preferred a loan deal, which Tottenham was not keen on discussing.
While Hojbjerg stayed put for the time being, it's believed that he will attract suitors in January, with reports suggesting that Juventus is one of the clubs showing interest. Hojbjerg's representatives have reportedly been exploring opportunities with some of Europe's top clubs to see if there's a potential exit from Tottenham.
Juventus is said to appreciate Hojbjerg's playing style but is hesitant due to Spurs' valuation, which hasn't dropped despite Hojbjerg having just over 18 months left on his contract. Juventus is expected to be in the market for a midfielder due to Paul Pogba's impending doping ban. However, they might only be able to secure Hojbjerg on loan, possibly with additional fees to persuade Spurs.
As for Hojbjerg's immediate future, he's expected to be on the substitutes' bench when Spurs face Liverpool this weekend.
