Iga Swiatek, the current world number one in tennis, secured her second Indian Wells Masters title with a commanding 6-4, 6-0 victory over Maria Sakkari in Sunday's women's singles final. It took the 22-year-old just 68 minutes to defeat her Greek opponent, whom she also defeated in the final of the 2022 edition. This win marks Swiatek's eighth Masters crown and her second of the 2024 season.

Adding to her impressive list of accomplishments, Swiatek had previously won the Qatar Open trophy and now boasts a total of 19 titles on the WTA Tour since reaching her first final in 2019.

Remarkably, she has only lost four out of the 23 finals she has competed in. Moreover, Swiatek's triumph in California was flawless, as she did not drop a single set throughout the tournament, a feat not achieved at Indian Wells since Maria Sharapova in 2013.

In the final match, Swiatek swiftly took control with a 3-0 lead, but Sakkari fought back to level the score at 4-4, capitalizing on some rare errors from Swiatek. However, Sakkari's resurgence was short-lived, as Swiatek regained her dominance, finishing the championship with an impressive eight-game winning streak. She sealed victory on her first match point as Sakkari's forehand shot went wide.

While Swiatek celebrated her second Indian Wells triumph, Sakkari faced disappointment with her eighth loss out of ten finals on the WTA Tour. Additionally, three out of her four appearances in Masters finals have now ended in defeat.
