Great Britain's Jack Draper had a successful start at the Adelaide International, advancing to the second round with a convincing victory over fifth seed Sebastian Baez. Draper, currently ranked 62nd in the world, dominated the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Baez.

This marked Draper's first ATP Tour match of the year, and despite the 36-place difference in ATP rankings, the 22-year-old displayed his superiority. The match lasted only 78 minutes, with Draper hitting 17 winners compared to Baez's eight. Notably, Baez did not create a single break point throughout the contest.

Draper's previous encounter with Baez at the 2023 Monte Carlo Masters had also resulted in a straight-set victory for the British player. In this Adelaide International match, a five-game winning streak allowed Draper to comfortably secure the first set. He continued his momentum in the second set, breaking Baez in the third game with a trio of winners.

As Baez served to stay in the match, an unforced error gave Draper two opportunities to close out the contest. Ultimately, the match concluded with Baez committing his first double fault of the encounter on match point.
