While Ten Hag's position might not be under immediate threat, minority investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe plans to review his performance and the club's managerial structure in the summer, likely putting Ten Hag's job at risk.
Although Ten Hag is contracted with Manchester United until 2025, recent reports suggest Ratcliffe is considering Gareth Southgate, the current England manager, as a potential replacement.
However, if Ten Hag becomes available, it's reported that Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, and Stuttgart are all interested in him. Bayern Munich is particularly in need of a new coach as Thomas Tuchel confirmed his departure. Leverkusen's current coach, Xabi Alonso, is also sought after by Liverpool and Real Madrid, potentially leaving Leverkusen searching for a replacement.
Stuttgart, led by Sebastian Hoeness, has had a successful season and is wary of losing Hoeness to Bayern if Alonso moves elsewhere. If Manchester United were to sack Ten Hag, it could cost the club around £10m in compensation, but Ratcliffe seems prepared to cover the hefty package.
