Athletic Bilbao clinched their 24th Copa del Rey title in a thrilling showdown against Mallorca on Saturday night in Seville. After 120 minutes of intense football ended in a 1-1 draw, Athletic emerged victorious in a penalty shootout, sealing their first Copa del Rey win since 1984.

Both teams fought fiercely throughout the match, with Oihan Sancet equalizing Dani Rodriguez's opener for Mallorca. Despite Mallorca's efforts to secure their second Copa del Rey trophy since 2003, Athletic emerged triumphant at Estadio de La Cartuja.

The game saw moments of brilliance from players on both sides. Nico Williams, despite concerns over an injury, spearheaded Athletic's attack with several attempts on goal. However, it was Rodriguez who broke the deadlock for Mallorca, capitalizing on a setup by Antonio Raillo.

Athletic continued to press forward, with Sancet finding the net in the 50th minute, leveling the score. Both teams created chances, but neither could find a decisive goal in regular time, leading to extra time.

In the additional period, both sides pushed for a winner, but neither could break the deadlock. As the tension mounted, penalties became the decider. Mallorca faltered with two misses, while Athletic converted all four of their spot kicks, securing a historic victory after 40 years.

It was a nail-biting finale to an exhilarating Copa del Rey final, with Athletic Bilbao emerging as the deserving champions.
