Real Madrid CF has announced that summer signing, Arda Guler, has unfortunately suffered a knee injury. Despite strong competition from Barcelona, the Spanish giants secured the highly-rated youngster for approximately €20m (£17.2m) just a few weeks ago.

Guler was part of Real Madrid's pre-season tour in the USA, but he was unable to participate in their victories against AC Milan and Manchester United. Although he missed training last week due to a suspected muscle strain, there was optimism that he would make his debut for Real Madrid against Manchester United on Wednesday.

Unfortunately, he was unable to take the field against Erik ten Hag's side, and Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has now confirmed that Guler will also be absent in the upcoming El Clasico clash against Barcelona in Arlington on Saturday. Initially, there was hope that he might be available for the friendly match against Juventus, but after further evaluation, it has been determined that Guler has suffered a meniscus injury.

As a result, the 18-year-old, who has already represented Turkey at the international level, will be returning home from the pre-season tour to receive the necessary treatment. Real Madrid released a statement addressing the situation:
"Following tests carried out on our new signing Arda Guler, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the internal meniscus of his right knee.

"The player will be transferred to Madrid in the next few hours to continue with a specific course of treatment."

As reported by The Athletic, there is a chance that Guler might need surgery if the platelet-rich plasma injection fails to resolve his injury issue. This news of Guler's setback comes as a significant blow to Real Madrid, especially as they gear up for the upcoming season set to commence against Athletic Bilbao on August 12.

In the absence of Guler, Real Madrid suffered a disheartening 3-0 defeat to their rivals Barcelona in a friendly match last Saturday.
