Yokozuna, a Samoan American professional wrestler, was born on October 2nd, 1966, in San Francisco, California. He made a significant impact in the world of wrestling during his career with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF).
Despite portraying a Japanese sumo wrestler in the ring, Yokozuna was, in reality, of Samoan descent. He achieved numerous accolades in the WWF, including being a two-time WWF World Heavyweight Champion, a two-time WWF Tag Team Champion (partnered with Owen Hart), and winning the 1993 Royal Rumble.
He was the first wrestler of Samoan heritage to hold the WWF World Heavyweight Championship. Yokozuna's wrestling career ended in 1998 due to health issues, but he continued to make appearances in the wrestling world.
Tragically, he passed away in his sleep on October 23rd, 2000, at the age of 34, while on a wrestling tour in Liverpool, England. His death was attributed to pulmonary edema, a condition involving fluid buildup in the lungs.
