According to reports, Liverpool might face competition from Real Madrid in their pursuit to bring Xabi Alonso from Bayer Leverkusen as their next manager. Alonso, who's currently 42, has been seen as a potential replacement for Jurgen Klopp at Anfield ever since Klopp announced he'd be stepping down at the end of the season.

Although Alonso is under contract with Leverkusen until June 2026, Liverpool seems keen on him and has supposedly reached out to him to see if he's interested in the job. Alonso has strong ties with Liverpool, having played there from 2004 to 2009, winning several trophies including the Champions League in 2005.

Real Madrid, where Alonso also played for five years, winning more trophies including another Champions League, is also keeping an eye on him. It's suggested that Real Madrid might have an edge in landing Alonso due to Liverpool's managerial search.

Alonso, however, seems content in his current role at Leverkusen, where he's been in charge since October 2022. Under his management, Leverkusen has seen significant success, including a long unbeaten streak this season. Despite interest from big clubs like Liverpool and Real Madrid, Alonso seems focused on leading Leverkusen to further success, including their quest for their first-ever Bundesliga title.
