For PSG, 2024–25 was nothing short of historic. Luis Enrique’s side swept every domestic trophy on offer, winning Ligue 1, the Coupe de France and the Trophee des Champions, before finally landing the one they had been chasing for years: the Champions League.
Their 5–0 demolition of Inter Milan in the Munich final was not just dominant, it was record-breaking as the biggest winning margin ever in a Champions League final.
That triumph made them only the second French club to win Europe’s biggest prize, joining bitter rivals Marseille, and capped more than a decade of heavy investment from their Qatari owners. They nearly made it a quintuple as well, reaching the Club World Cup final, but Chelsea proved too strong with a 3–0 win.
Because their season ended so late, PSG have not played a single pre-season friendly. They go straight into this game before opening their Ligue 1 campaign against Nantes this weekend.
Tottenham’s route to the Super Cup was more turbulent. Lifting the Europa League ended a 17-year wait for a trophy but a disastrous 17th-place Premier League finish cost Ange Postecoglou his job. Thomas Frank has since taken over, overseeing six friendlies including a morale-boosting win over Arsenal before a heavy 4–0 defeat to Bayern Munich last week.
This will be Spurs’ first Super Cup appearance while PSG will be looking to erase memories of their only previous outing in 1996–97 when they lost 9–2 on aggregate to Juventus.
With neither club having won the trophy before, Wednesday’s clash is about more than just another piece of silverware. It is a chance to lay down a marker for the season ahead.
INJURIES & SUSPENSION
PSG were lucky to have most of their small squad stay fit through the business end of last season, and that remains the case now. Luis Enrique is expected to have a full-strength team available for this match. The only likely change could come in goal. Gianluigi Donnarumma appears to be on his way out, with Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier already signed as his probable replacement.
Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernandez, who both missed last month’s Club World Cup final through suspension, are set to return. However, Joao Neves was sent off late in that game and has been handed a two-match ban by FIFA.
Tottenham will have to cope without James Maddison for most of the upcoming season after he tore his ACL in a pre-season friendly against Newcastle United. He joins long-term absentees Dejan Kulusevski and Radu Dragusin on the injury list.
Dominic Solanke has missed most of pre-season as well. While he is close to returning, this match is expected to come too soon for him.
Left-back Destiny Udogie is another concern for Thomas Frank, with doubts over his availability for both this game and the league opener against Burnley this weekend.

EXPERT PREDICTION
PSG 3-1 Tottenham
PSG may have been caught out by Chelsea last month, but they comfortably swept aside several Premier League opponents on their way to lifting the Champions League trophy. Tottenham, by contrast, ended the campaign in 17th place and are still finding their feet under yet another new manager.
