Reports suggest that Mauricio Pochettino, the head coach of Chelsea, has made the decision to retain Kepa Arrizabalaga as the team's first-choice goalkeeper. Since Pochettino's appointment as Chelsea's new boss, there have been discussions about the possibility of a goalkeeper change.

Arrizabalaga had an improved campaign in 2022-23, conceding only 33 goals in 29 appearances in the Premier League, despite Chelsea finishing in 12th position. However, there were widespread rumors that the club was considering allowing the £71.6 million signing from 2018 to leave Stamford Bridge, alongside Edouard Mendy.

As a result, Chelsea has been linked with several goalkeepers from around Europe, including Andre Onana from Inter Milan and Mike Maignan from AC Milan. Recent reports claimed that personal terms had already been agreed with Onana, and negotiations over a transfer fee were expected to follow.

However, according to Sky Sports News, Pochettino's focus is on improving other areas of the squad and he is not actively pursuing a change in goalkeepers. Chelsea is facing a significant rebuilding task, as they are looking to offload several players, potentially in double figures, to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations. Pochettino aims to strengthen the squad, with central midfield and attack being priorities due to the anticipated departures of N'Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic, as well as the team's lack of goals in the previous season. Consequently, Pochettino has chosen to maintain the current goalkeeping options unless a notable offer for Mendy arises in the coming months.

The Chelsea hierarchy is reportedly open to selling Mendy, who has fallen down the pecking order and is not interested in signing a new contract. Regarding Arrizabalaga, although he has only two years left on his contract, the club sees value in keeping him due to the unlikelihood of receiving substantial bids for the 28-year-old goalkeeper's services.

In total, Arrizabalaga has made 163 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions, registering 35 clean sheets in 109 Premier League outings.
