Arsenal's latest signing, Mikel Merino, is set to be out of action for a few weeks after suffering a shoulder injury during his first training session with the club. The Spaniard, who joined the Gunners from Real Sociedad in a £31.6 million deal on Tuesday, faced an unfortunate collision with a teammate on Thursday.
The 28-year-old midfielder, Arsenal's second signing of the summer following Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna, sustained a small fracture in his shoulder during the incident. Manager Mikel Arteta confirmed the setback, explaining that Merino was in significant pain and will undergo further tests.
"Yes, very unfortunate," Arteta said. "Yesterday, he had a collision and got a shoulder injury. Unfortunately, it looks like he is going to be out for a few weeks. He was really excited, and everything was looking really good. But he landed on the floor, and Gabi landed on top of him, which likely caused a small fracture."
Arsenal, having won their first two Premier League matches against Wolves and Aston Villa, will face Brighton at the Emirates on Saturday. Brighton is one of the few teams alongside Arsenal to maintain a 100% record this season.
