Manchester City are reportedly gearing up to challenge Liverpool for Newcastle United attacker Anthony Gordon in this summer's transfer window. Liverpool has been strongly linked to the England international, who moved to Newcastle from Everton at the start of 2023. However, the Reds now face tough competition for his signature.

According to Football Insider, Man City has entered the race for Gordon and is keen to explore the financial aspects of a summer deal for the 23-year-old. The report indicates that while Liverpool is in talks with Newcastle, they've been put off by the high asking price for the former Everton player.

Newcastle is rumored to be seeking at least £75m for Gordon, with add-ons potentially pushing the deal close to £100m, which could be a stumbling block for Liverpool. Man City head coach Pep Guardiola is reportedly looking for a "lethal" forward this summer, and Gordon's arrival might cast doubt on Jack Grealish's future at the club.

Grealish, who was left out of the England squad for Euro 2024, had a challenging 2023-24 season with the Citizens, scoring only three goals and providing three assists in 36 appearances across all competitions. With three years left on his contract at Etihad Stadium, there have been speculations that Grealish could be sold for the right price this summer.

Gordon would offer Man City a different attacking option, which seems to be what Guardiola is seeking in this transfer window. Gordon has had a mixed Euro 2024, playing only one minute so far and being an unused substitute in the quarter-final against Switzerland.

However, Gordon boasts a record of 13 goals and 11 assists in 64 appearances for Newcastle and a combined Premier League record of 19 goals and 13 assists in 116 appearances for Newcastle and Everton. He also gained Champions League experience last season, and under Guardiola's guidance, he could elevate his game further.

Ultimately, much will depend on the price, as Man City is unlikely to shell out £75m for Gordon, who scored 12 goals and provided 11 assists in 48 matches for Newcastle during the 2023-24 season.
