Manchester City has reportedly entered the race alongside Chelsea in pursuit of Inter Milan's talented wing-back, Federico Dimarco. Dimarco, an ultra-attacking left-sided Italian international, has established himself as a key player for Inter Milan, a team currently leading the Serie A standings.

In just six league games this season, Dimarco has already contributed with a goal and three assists, one of which was a stunning volley that secured a 1-0 victory over Empoli for Inter Milan. His remarkable offensive contributions have been catching the eye since he broke into Inter's lineup two years ago.

Notably, during Inter Milan's journey to the Champions League final last season, Dimarco recorded an impressive five assists in European competitions, setting a new record for a defender in a single European campaign. He's also managed to keep the likes of Robin Gosens and new signing Carlos Augusto out of the starting lineup for most of this season.

Manager Simone Inzaghi has primarily favored Dimarco over Augusto, with the exception of a Champions League match against Real Sociedad, which resulted in a 1-1 draw despite Inter Milan's struggles. Dimarco has also become the undisputed first-choice left-back for the Italian national team, having played regularly under both Roberto Mancini and Luciano Spalletti.

As a result, it's been reported by CalcioMercato that both Chelsea and Manchester City are keeping a close watch on Dimarco as a potential signing next summer. Manchester City, in particular, had a firsthand look at Dimarco's talents in last season's Champions League final, where his attacking instincts were on full display.

Chelsea is also in the market for a left-sided defender, given Ben Chilwell's recurring injury concerns and the form of Marc Cucurella. Dimarco's current contract runs until 2026, with a reported salary of just £25,000-per-week. English clubs believe they could entice Dimarco with a substantial salary increase, with reports suggesting they are willing to quadruple his earnings.

However, it's worth noting that Dimarco has a deep connection to Inter Milan, having supported the club and attended matches as a child. Convincing him to leave his boyhood club may prove to be a significant challenge for both Chelsea and Manchester City.
