Fans got a glimpse of Cherki’s talent during his recent international debut for France, where he impressed with a goal and an assist in just 27 minutes during a thrilling 5–4 loss to Spain in the UEFA Nations League semi-final. After the match, Cherki dropped a strong hint suggesting a move to City is close.
City's first bid, around €22.5 million (£18.9 million), was turned down, but they returned with an improved offer and have now reached an agreement with Lyon. According to L’Équipe, the deal was finalized on Monday morning, and Cherki is expected to sign a five-year contract within hours.
While the final fee hasn’t been officially disclosed, journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that Lyon will receive a €35 million (£29.5 million) package, including €6 million (£5 million) in add-ons.
Cherki, who has already spoken with Pep Guardiola, is set to travel to Manchester on Monday and will undergo a medical before signing his contract on Tuesday. City are aiming to finalize the deal before the summer transfer window closes at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.
